Philander Smith Outmuscles Talladega on the Road, Wins 83–75 Behind Reece’s 38-Point Explosion

November 8, 2025 — Talladega, AL

Philander Smith picked up a statement road victory Saturday afternoon, knocking off Talladega 83–75 thanks to a dominant interior performance, efficient scoring, and one of the biggest individual outings of the early season.

The Panthers controlled the game's pace from the opening tip, using a 46-point first half to set the tone and never allowing Talladega to seize momentum for long stretches. Even as the Tornadoes made several pushes, Philander Smith's poise and inside presence guided them to a wire-to-wire style win.

Reece Takes Over — 38 Points, 18 Rebounds

No one in the gym had an answer for Raymond Reece, who turned in a monster performance that powered the Panthers on both ends of the floor.

Reece delivered 38 points on 16-of-22 shooting while pulling down 18 rebounds, carving through Talladega's front line possession after possession. Whether it was drop-steps, high-post drives, or putbacks, Reece scored at will and anchored everything Philander did offensively.

It was one of the most complete games of his collegiate career and one of the most dominant road performances in recent program memory.

Balanced Support Around the Star Power

Even with Reece putting up video-game numbers, the Panthers got meaningful contributions across the rotation:

  • Elijah Anderson (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) gave them calming playmaking and hit key free throws in the second half.

  • Kesean Washington added 8 points with solid guard defense and timely shot-making.

  • D'Andre Lockett chipped in 7 points and worked his way to efficient looks inside.

  • Off the bench, Jaxon Hampton was a difference-maker with 12 points and 6 boards, bringing energy during a crucial mid-game stretch.

  • Joshua Wallace and Jaylen Southern also provided spot minutes to keep the Panthers fresh.

Despite a rare off-night from leading scorer Xavier Alexander (4 points), the Panthers never wavered thanks to contributions all around the lineup.

Talladega Shows Fight With Deep Rotation

Talladega refused to go away, leaning on aggressive drives and a deep nine-man rotation to stay competitive.

  • Jalen Bing-Wallace led the Tornadoes with 16 points and worked his way to an 8-for-8 showing at the free throw line.

  • Tre Simmons added 12 points, hitting two threes and providing spacing.

  • Arthur Williams packed the stat sheet with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

  • Ethan Smith, Treyon Delmore, and Kenneth Jenkins Jr. each chipped in 7 points off steady ball movement.

Talladega shot a sharp 87.5% from the free throw line, but struggled from the field overall at 38.1%, unable to match the Panthers' more efficient shot profile.

Key Numbers That Shaped the Game

  • Field Goal %: PSU 48.5% | Talladega 38.1%

  • Rebounds: PSU 38 | Talladega 35

  • Points in the Paint: Heavily favored Philander Smith, largely due to Reece's dominance

  • Turnovers: PSU only 8 | Talladega 15

  • Bench Points: PSU held a 14–20 battle but made more timely buckets
