Philander Smith Sweeps Tougaloo in Straight Sets, Extends Winning Momentum
Tougaloo, Miss. — October 17, 2025 — The Philander Smith College Panthers put on a commanding performance Friday night, sweeping Tougaloo College 3–0 in a decisive volleyball matchup in Kroger Gymnasium. Behind an efficient offensive attack and a disciplined defensive effort, the Panthers cruised to victory with set scores of 26–24, 25–10, 25–18.
With the win, Philander Smith improved to 12–9 on the season, while Tougaloo continued to search for answers, falling to 1–20.
Panthers Take Control
The opening set provided some early drama as Tougaloo fought hard to stay within reach, but Philander Smith's composure under pressure proved the difference, closing out the set 26–24. From there, the Panthers hit their stride, dominating the second set 25–10 and sealing the match in convincing fashion with a 25–18 finish.
Philander Smith's offensive efficiency told the story of the match. The Panthers posted a .243 hitting percentage, while Tougaloo struggled offensively, recording a negative hitting percentage of -.009 with 27 attack errors.
Star Performances Fuel Philander Smith
Leading the charge for the Panthers was Ja'Niya Sanders, who delivered another standout performance. Sanders registered 14 kills on a .294 hitting percentage, setting the tone for Philander Smith's attack and keeping Tougaloo's defense on its heels.
